Some of the best memories of my childhood are of summer and playing with my cousins. I can remember the carefree spirit that I felt inside, the cool grass through my toes, and the belly laughs that seemed to last all day. The imagination is such a gift. More than anything, I miss that most about my childhood. I miss being swept away in a world of fairies, or in the world of flowers and Anne of Green Gables. Often, I long for just a moment of forgetting the world and listening to wishes floating in the summer breeze. I have known the husband of this precious family since he was born. Granted, I was only about three years old, but I do remember meeting him for the first time. I remember holding his grandma’s hand and being introduced to his swaddled self by his mom. I have numerous memories of playing around my grandma’s pond, playing He-Man, eating ding dongs at his grandma’s, and making mud pies with him. Good times. So, after all of these years, being able to watch him play with his own family made my heart light. So many years of memories connected by a history that goes back to lifelong best friends and neighbors...our respective grandmas. While editing these images, I couldn’t help but recognize family resemblances, which helped my heart to heal a bit, as his grandma, and my surrogate, passed away recently. Seeing Her shining through her great grand daughter’s eyes reinforced that she will continue to live on through her legacy of love. In memory and with all of my love and blessings.

It is always such an honor to capture momentous times in people's lives. When I have the opportunity to shoot someone I know, it makes my job that much more rewarding. Mother's Day has always been one of the most special holidays to my heart. I can remember when I was a little girl spending hours writing poems, painting pictures, and planning breakfast in bed for my own mom. I remember the light in her eyes sparkling when I showered her with all of these small, but meaningful gifts of love.

This Mother's Day, however, has importance beyond any words. Last week, my family found out that my sweet mom, who has been fighting a kidney disease since 1990, and who went into full kidney failure almost 2 years ago, will be given the greatest gift another human can bestow...the gift of life, a new kidney. I am grateful, and my heart filled with thanks that I am getting my best friend, my biggest supporter, and my heart returned to me this Mother's Day.

So on this day...if you are a Mom-to-be, a seasoned Mommy, or a Grandmother, embrace your Mother, or the memory of her spirit. Love her for her wisdom, her patience, and her heart while also cherishing you own children, and reflecting upon the legacy you are leaving them. Abundant blessings and so much Mommy love to you all.

Since I started shooting professionally this past year, I have been so encompassed in capturing my customer's lives that I have completely neglected shooting for myself. Often I will observe great light around my house, or see a perfect shot in my mind and just simply take a mental image. I don't take the time to get my camera out of the bag and shoot what my heart wants. So, in order to give back to myself a bit, and to embrace inspiration, I decided to take a 30 day photo class hosted by Big Picture Scrapbooking and Tracey at Shutter Sisters. Everyday, we are given an assignment. Instructed to look into your heart and meditate on your life, you are then to spend time with your camera. These shots are my interpretation of "Morning Rituals" and "Beginnings." Check back to see where inspiration leads me on this journey. Blessings.

As I look out my window this morning, I feel peace. Although the sky is cloudy, and it is definitely cold...huge, fluffy snow flakes dance in the breeze. They playfully drift, until they reach the earth, covering it in a blanket of purity.

While watching this journey, I reflect on a man who began a new passage of his own this morning. A man who blessed this Earth with his smile alone. A man who dedicated himself to his family. A man who simply and purely loved. Although an aggressive cancer, glioblastoma, took his life this morning, this man never ceased living the way he was known for. He continually stayed positive, pushed the boundaries of the condition, and most importantly... never forgot to shower love on those he held close. To those that meant the most to him....a wink and a smile will always get you by. Love to you all, and Godspeed to your sweet Papa.

I don't know if it is because we live in the mountains, and know just how important a good snow season is for the spring, or if I just relish in the peace of a snowy day...whatever the reason, this quote by Mr. Frost pretty much sums up how I feel about this season of snow. As the inches continue to grow around our home I can't help but love the powder, the icicles, and the snowflakes. I can't help but anticipate sledding on our favorite hill, and I especially can't help it that I am a mountain lady, who simply loves the fact that we are blessed to have each season the year offers. 3 years ago this evening our 3rd child was born. She, like all children, is a gift directly from Heaven. However, I would have never imagined in that first moment when she looked into my eyes, and I into hers, just how much of a blessing she was going to be in our lives.

We were not planning on having another baby, however, we were overjoyed, with her arrival, and thanked God for blessing us with another healthy, baby girl. We enjoyed her first year, like all parents....first baths, giggles, babbles, words, likes/dislikes...you know how it goes. She has always filled our lives with joy with her spritey personality and love how she can make anyone smile with her sweet, pixie demeanor.

21 months after her birth, our lives were hit hard when I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. It was caught early, and because of Divine intervention it was treatable relatively easy. The emotions and thoughts of that time were intense, but despite the diagnosis, I continually looked at my children as amazing blessings simply because I had such peace knowing that God knew exactly what I was going to need in my life prior to the cancer. He knew that I needed to have my other kids early on in life, and He knew what I needed even before I did....her....my 3rd and absolute, last baby.

Yes, I do get pangs of wanting another baby whenever I hold, smell, or see a new mother cradle her own. Yet, I also know that choosing this path of capturing others' tiny miracles on camera, allows me to continue to cherish and experience new life. As I sit here and reflect tonight, I am humbled and grateful. I thank God for allowing me to be a mother. I cherish the moments, and looking lovingly to the future.

Happy Birthday, Sydney-Sue. Thank you for who you are, and for all that you have done for me in your first 36 months. God bless.

I always love meeting back up with people that you haven't seen in many years. I enjoy seeing where life has led them, and who they have married. I like catching up, talking about the past, and hearing of plans for their future. But the one thing I love the most about this type of interaction is meeting their children. I like to observe them and discover characteristics and mannerisms that remind me of who their parent was years ago. This family I felt especially honored to shoot. I was able to reconnect with an old friend, meet her parents, seeing a glimpse of where she had come from, and also be introduced to her husband and his mother who had traveled from Mexico. Having all of these beautiful souls in front of my lens reinforced the belief that family is life's greatest blessing... it overcomes all language barriers, distance, and time, while encompassing all those involved in an envelope of unconditional love. Like any new birth, this little guy's arrival had been anticipated for quite some time. His sweet mom had a rough go during her pregnancy, so ever since he made his entrance into this world, he has continually blessed her and his family with his calm and peaceful presence. After this shoot today, I was so excited to get home to post these adorable images of baby J. He was such a patient and willing model for being only 6 days old, and his mom so willing to let me try out new props and ideas with him. Now, that the first, real snowfall has encompassed us, and is still melting on our driveway, I look back to this beautiful, autumn afternoon a couple of weeks ago, and embrace the mild and crisp weather that the season brought. I always love to shoot families. I love to watch their relationships unfold in front of my lens, and I enjoy the dynamics that make them a family. Shooting this family, in particular, made my heart light. While their playfulness and laughter echoed in the air, it made me happy to know that in a little way, I was a part of their dynamic as well. It made me happy to reflect on memories past, and to see a familiarity in the children that reminded me of my youth. Most importantly, it made me appreciate the certainty of family, and to cherish the closeness that my cousin's family and mine still have as adults. Love you, Cuz (& family!)

There is something contagious about the laughter of a child. Get two to belly laugh together, and everyone near can't help but giggle as well. This shoot was great fun simply because these kids are so amusing to play with. From jumping in leaf piles to playing with Buzz Light year we all had a blast just being kids (for me, turning into one for awhile). I feel so lucky that these two beings are in my life...not only in front of my camera, but also because they call me Auntie. Love you guys!

It is amazing and so fun for me to see where people's lives have led them, and I am grateful that this shoot gave me that opportunity. This little guy's parents and I have known each other since our childhoods. We went through all of our schooling together, and so, it was truly fitting that we ended up doing this session at our old Elementary school. Such a great time to be back there, reminiscing about school yard fights, games that were played, and our old janitor, Ralph. Too funny. Thanks M & L for the memories, and for sharing your little man with me. This session allowed me to reflect on years past, and more importantly....to hold my childhood close once again. Blessings!

I met this beautiful, little girly this past weekend at the photo session her mom won from my facebook/blog contest! Congrats again, N! We had a great time playing in the leaves and talking about five year old life. It's so easy to forget how fun it is to play kitties, roll in the leaves, make monster faces, go on rock hunts, climb on tractors, and be a cowboy all in an hour's time! Could these two sisters be any sweeter? Recently, I went to Phoenix for a U2 concert, and was lucky to be able to shoot these adorable, curly haired, cuties as well. We had so much fun playing in fountains, with bubbles, yelling at the top of our lungs, singing songs, sharing lots of giggles, and exploring the resort I was staying at. It's hard to believe that the holidays are right around the corner! I can almost feel the magic and coziness of the season, not to mention the endless list of to do's...and with that list, the stress that comes right along with it. One of my little gifts to you, is helping to get your holiday cards done easily! Just imagine...sending out a beautiful and unique greeting that is not only on time, but also, early! Your friends and family will think that you are so on top of it all!

So here's the scoop...Session fee of $130 is due at the time of booking to reserve your spot, and is non-refundable. There are a limited amount of sessions, and therefore, time slots. Call early to grab the time that will work best for your little one or family. All cards are 5 x 7 cards with envelopes, and will arrive about one week after card and image selections are chosen.

A grand adventure is about to begin.

When I shoot (or even see) a pregnant belly it stirs something familiar inside of me. I can vividly remember the kicks, the hiccups, and the fluid movements of that small, blessing growing inside of me. I can also remember the heaviness of that little being, the tiredness of it all, and the constant worry that something could go wrong. I cherish all of those times in a place that only mothers know. When I am in the presence of a pregnant woman I can sympathize and share in their anticipation. I am able to enjoy the cuteness of it all, and simply embrace what a miracle the entire process is.

As a cervical cancer survivor, I knew that losing that ability to have more of my own tiny miracles would be hard, but feel so amazingly, and sometimes overwhelmingly, blessed that my job, if that is what you want to call it, allows me to experience those feelings of excitement once again. I whole heartedly want to thank my expectant clients (& then their newborns) for sharing themselves and a little piece their own personal miracle with me and my camera. Abundant blessings!

This shoot was filled with lots of smiles, running, bubbles, and fun. While this little, sweet pea, who was about 18 months old, and her 3 year old sister, simply played in front of my camera, they allowed me to see a glimpse of their bright spirits for the few hours I was with them. As I observe and capture other peoples children, I always feel so incredibly blessed that I am able to simply be in their presence, able to see what the future holds, and grateful that these little beings become my friends, even if it is just for some brief magical moments in their lives.

This past weekend, a fellow photographer passed on a referral for me to shoot an amazing engagement party on top of a bank building in downtown Albuquerque. Thanks so much lady! It was absolutely beautiful from the bottom floor to the top of the 8th story roof, where the party was held. Incredible views every way you turned. The energy was exciting and the party goers were stunningly beautiful. One of my favorite locations of this place was the sexy vibe lobby that was your first experience of the place when you walked in. Look at the details of the old building architecture mixed with contemporary style. Too cool! The shoot held it's challenges however. Crazy wind threw a detour to the party's black and white decor, and everyone's hairstyles soon became the wind blown look. Luckily, no rain damped the event, and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time taking in the city lights and each other's company, while celebrating the upcoming marriage of their friends.

I love taking pictures of families that are so full of spirit and fun. It's such a good time for me to interact with and observe the love that particular family possesses. It makes it even more special when the family is one of my closest friends. I have known this beautiful Mama ever since she was born, a year after me. Her mom and my mom have been best friends since first grade, so we were automatically girlfriends. I have such vivid memories playing with her in her playhouse, hot tubbing it at her Grandparent's house, and laughing so much that we cried. I look at these images of her and her little family, and feel the love radiating through her eyes. I am so happy that our paths are still intermingled. From playing dolls, to having our own babies....our lives have been so blessed. I love you, sweet M (& your precious family!)

As a cervical cancer survivor, I know that cancer is just a word. Something we can battle, fight, and overcome. So it is with a hopeful heart that I announce....

Bree Ross Photography is excited to announce a partnership with Think Pink Photography. Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause.

Through our professional photographer network, we are helping breast cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the breast cancer patient. Clients participating in a Think Pink Session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. They will also receive a discount on any additional portraits they wish to purchase, although there is absolutely no purchase required at any time.

To support the cause, we have partnered with The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. All funds generated through donations and various fundraising efforts are paid directly to The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. As a 3-time breast cancer survivor, Danielle Beverly and her husband Eric joined together to form a foundation dedicated to promoting education, increasing awareness, and providing support and resources for families who have been touched by breast cancer.

I can remember being 11 just like it was a few days ago. Life at this age is all about finding out who you are...your style, your friends, your kind of music, what kind of person you are, the list could go on and on. I also remember the transition from elementary to middle school. Such a big time in your life where you struggle with wanting to be a young adult, but yet, still wanting to be a little kid, too. My best advice... find your heart, follow it, and never sway from who you are deep inside. This time in life is tough, but if you stay true to who you are, nothing, from peer pressure to clickish groups, can change whom God intended you to be.

Whenever I see a newborn sleeping, I always envy them. You can move them around, watch them intently, and have a quiet conversation without even startling them. Being a mom of three, I really don't remember what it was like to get some good, and I mean really good, sleep. For now, I can only imagine that deep, peaceful slumber. I know that someday, when my babies leave home, that I will again get good rest. But for now, I will watch babies slumber...wondering what they are sweetly dreaming and what they will soon grow to be.

This little guy's Grandpa, an amazing, happy soul, passed from this Earth and flew straight on to Heaven yesterday morning. I am honored to have known him most of my life. Even in his dying hours he remained joyful and humorous...the two characteristics that he always possessed. I came across this picture of his grandson, "A," today. It is not only proves to me that this kiddo is surrounded by loving light, but more importantly, a comfort to my heart that his Abuelo will always protect and shine his angelic light down upon his family.
